KEXP has been in Seattle for more than 40 years! Since starting out as a 10-watt station, KEXP has since expanded its rock format to a variety of music, been the first station to offer uncompressed CD-quality audio on the internet 24/7, has partnered with the Experience Music Project, won a Webby Award for Best Radio Website, has partnered with 91.5 FM Radio New York, and signed a 30-year agreement with UW that ensures the station to keep broadcasting.
According to their KEXP new home website, KEXP aimed to raise $15 million for the new space in Seattle Center. This location works perfectly with their ties to the surrounding institutions and the amount of space gives them enough room to work more comfortably, the capability to keep growing and provides the public more access to their facility.
Western Neon fabricated three exterior LED halo illuminated reverse pan channel letter signs measuring approximately 3’x4.5′ and 8’x10′. The two color faces were painted black and KEXP’s signature yellow.
Western Neon not only made the exterior signs, but also the interior way-finding and ADA signage. Since KEXP would not be possible without its 350+ donors, KEXP decided to honor them with creative vinyl applications around the northwest corner which houses their vinyl collection. Additional vinyl was installed for the individual rooms.
Western Neon was honored to be a part of the creation of KEXP’s new home. We were very pleased with the craftsmanship and overall esthetic of the project. The grand opening of the new KEXP home was a great success and we are ecstatic to see what is in store for the new location!
