The history of glass blowing in Seattle finds its heart in the early 1960s when the renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly, along with Anne Gould Hauberg and John H. Hauberg, established the Pilchuck Glass School north of Seattle. Glass Bending specializes in crafting curved and intricately shaped glass tubes, most often used for neon signage. Skilled artisans heat glass tubes and bend them into desired shapes, transforming them into captivating displays of light.
The process demands precision and expertise. Glass tubes are heated section by section, allowing the bender to control the curve and angle with remarkable accuracy.
Neon and Argon gas, when electrified, emits a vibrant glow, creating the iconic neon lighting effect. Artisans fill the bent glass tubes with various gasses to achieve an array of colors, infusing the final piece with captivating luminosity.
